Most of us skip using a primer before applying makeup and thus make a mistake in the first step! Primers are formulated to prepare your skin for foundation and concealer application. They smooth out your skin by filling any pores or other imperfections your skin might have. In addition to that, they make the foundation stay longer on your skin by making it adhere to your skin instead of sliding off of it soon after you apply foundation. The same theory applies to eyelid primers before you apply eye shadows. An eye shadow primer can also prevent creasing of your eye makeup.

You can find hydrating primers for dry skin, skin-brightening primers for dull skin, and mattifying or oil-control primers for skins that get oily after applying foundation. I will write about how to choose foundations for oily skins in the future.
